Dr. Hetal Amin-Patel did perform unconscious sedation treatments through the local hospital at one time, but that arrangement is not available through Beautiful Dentistry today. This page will be updated when unconscious sedation is offered at Beautiful Dentistry once again.
Unconscious Sedation with General Anesthesia
Unconscious Sedation with General Anesthesia provides patients with a drug-induced loss of consciousness during which patients are not arousable, and are unaware of pain. Unconscious sedation is an option for any dental procedure, and can be requested for a variety of reasons. Patients that feel nervous, anxious, and distressed about any of their dental work are excellent candidates for unconscious sedation dentistry.
Pre-Sedation
Patient Evaluation
In healthy or medically stable individuals with very mildly life threatening health complications a review of current medical history and medication use. Patients with significant medical considerations, such as severely life threatening health complications, should consult with their primary care physician or primary medical specialist before pursuing unconscious sedation for dental procedures that do not absolutely require it.
Informed Consent
The patient, parent, guardian, or care-giver will be advised regarding the procedure associated with the delivery of sedative agents. The Dentist is required to obtain informed consent for the proposed sedation.
During Sedation
Multiple trained professionals with advanced life support training will be present, and actively monitoring the sedated patient. The Dentist will remain in the room to monitor the patient continuously until the patient meets the criteria for recovery. While the Dentist is performing the dental procedure, the medical staff will actively ensure the patient’s level of consciousness, oxygenation, ventilation, and circulation is continually assessed. Great care is taken by the entire staff with every patient during the entire process to ensure a positive outcome.
Post Sedation
Recovery & Discharge
The Dentist will determine and document the level of consciousness, oxygenation, ventilation, and circulation. When all of the baselines are satisfactory the patient is ready for discharge.
Post operative verbal and written instructions will be provided to the patient, parent, guardian, escort, or care giver.
